If you review our content, you’ll find that we have always been proponents of using summer to at least prepare for active job hunting in autumn: creating a list of headhunters, a list of companies, researching e-mail addresses, optimizing application documents and fine-tuning the LinkedIn profile.

And for those already in the middle of job hunting, we have always recommended to shift to third gear in summer instead of slowing down. Companies still have to recruit and the competition is away on vacation = it’s the perfect time to make a move.

Dear Career Angels,

I find it difficult to stay positive at the moment, to be honest.

I have only contacted 3 headhunters so far and have not received any feedback from any of them. I’ll go back to all of them today, but honestly I don’t expect much. I have also not received any inquiries via LinkedIn and Xing.

I have applied directly to two companies, but through their recommended channel for “spontaneous” candidates. One of these companies asked “for more information.”

To answer your question: Honestly, the situation is currently anything but pleasant for people who are currently looking for a new job. That’s in general.

Of course, it is especially difficult for us “silverbacks”. Because: many companies are looking for experienced managers, but when it becomes down to choosing, the topic of age is unfortunately always limited to around 50 plus.
