Employment trends
The rise of digital technologies is seen as the most disruptive trend shaping the job market. As many as 60% of employers predict that advancements in this area will revolutionize their business by 2030. Key developments include progress in artificial intelligence and information processing, robotics and autonomous systems, and technologies related to energy generation, storage and distribution. These developments will result in job growth in some sectors and job losses in others. Although to a lesser extent, slower economic growth also remains a significant factor that could result in a loss of 1.6 million jobs.
Climate change mitigation ranks as the third most transformative trend, with 47% of employers highlighting its importance. Renewable energy engineers are among the 15 fastest-growing occupations. Projections also suggest that climate change will drive demand for environmental stewardship, which, for the first time, have made the list of the 10 fastest-growing competencies in the Future of Jobs report.

Skills of the future
The fastest percentage growth is expected in technology-related roles, such as big data specialists, fintech engineers, artificial intelligence and machine learning specialists, and software and applications developers. In contrast, the biggest job losses will impact office and administrative positions. As a result, around 39% of employees will need to update their skills between 2025 and 2030. Although the pace of this transformation has slowed compared to previous editions of the report (57% in 2020 and 44% in 2023), the scale of necessary training and retraining remains considerable. Skills gaps continue to be the biggest challenge to business transformation, with 63% of employers citing them as a key obstacle.

The list of fastest-growing competencies is dominated by technology-related skills, including artificial intelligence and big data, network technologies and cybersecurity, and general technological literacy. Analytical thinking remains the most desired skill. At the same time, soft skills such as creativity, curiosity, continuous learning, as well as resilience and flexibility are growing in importance. In contrast, the demand for manual skills, physical endurance and precision is to decline significantly, with 24% of respondents predicting their declining relevance.

Changes in the workplace
Employee well-being has become a top priority for companies seeking talent, with 64% of employers citing it as an important strategy for attracting and retaining employees. Of equal importance are effective reskilling and upskilling programs, as well as further opportunities for promotion and career development. 85% of companies plan to invest in the development of their employees’ competencies, and 50% intend to transition their staff from declining roles into those with greater growth potential.
The Future of Jobs report also highlights the growing emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. The potential to expand the talent pool by embracing a more diverse workforce is now recognized by four times as many companies as two years ago. As of 2025, 83% of employers have implemented DEI initiatives, up from 67% in 2023. This is particularly strong among North American companies (96% of implementations) and among employers with more than 50,000 employees (95%).

As the chart shows, the highest percentage of employers plan to implement measures aimed at increasing gender diversity in their workforce. Some of these changes are already visible. The new rules on gender equality in supervisory boards stem from the “Women on Boards” directive adopted by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU. It requires that, by July 2026, women make up at least 40% of supervisory boards or at least 33% of the combined management and supervisory boards in Europe’s largest companies.
