Effective recruitment support: proven tools vs. traps

Effective recruitment support: proven tools vs. traps

In today’s dynamically changing world, the job market is evolving at a rapid pace. New tools and platforms are constantly emerging to facilitate the job search. But are all of them really helpful? Sometimes you might get the impression that trusting certain tools is like shooting yourself in the foot – they promise the world, but in reality lead to frustration and failure.

However, properly selected tools can become our best allies. Whether it is creating the perfect CV, writing a convincing cover letter, planning a job search, or optimizing documents for specific job requirements – technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI), opens up new possibilities for us.

So how do you distinguish between valuable tools from those that only offer empty promises? Don’t worry – we’ve tested many options for you. Today, we’re confidently presenting those worth including in your arsenal in the battle for your dream job. Below you’ll find a summary of our recommendations, as well as a list of tools that are better avoided if you want to be effective.

Tools we recommend

After testing various platforms, we have selected those we believe are worth adding to your toolkit. They will make your job search process more efficient, more structured, and more aligned with the demands of the modern job market.

Yoodli (https://yoodli.ai/)

The development of artificial intelligence already allows for conducting simulations of job interviews, so it is worth using this opportunity in the process of job hunting. Yoodli allows you to break the barrier of stress and treat a job interview as a natural situation. Making a good impression is a matter of skills that can be trained!

Yoodli offers free preparation for job interviews in English. This platform allows you to choose what you want to focus on: expressing yourself effortlessly, speaking at the right pace, or eliminating repetitive words. After choosing one of the options, simply turn on the microphone and camera and start the conversation. After recording your response, you will receive feedback: an evaluation of your speaking pace, vocabulary, or the presence of so-called filler words. The platform will also suggest what can be improved on the next attempt.

We recommend using Yoodli to practice job interviews. A candidate answering questions on their own is often unable to spot their mistakes or look at themselves objectively. Yoodli allows you to avoid basic mistakes in the comfort of your home without the pressure of a real job interview.

And if you would like to practice your interview even more intensively, you can schedule a job interview simulation with one of our experts at Career Angels! We will help you prepare answers to the most frequently asked questions, you will receive personalized feedback from us, and most importantly – you will feel confident and at ease. Careerflow (https://www.careerflow.ai/)

Careerflow is a great tool for monitoring your job search process, equipped with a practical planner. It allows you to add links to the jobs you are applying for and track the status of each application (e.g. “rejected”, “interviewing”). Thanks to this, you can easily control and organize your actions.

Careerflow supports the creation and optimization of your CV by analyzing the document in terms of compatibility with the requirements of a specific job offer. Thanks to indicators such as “Skill Score” and “Resume Analysis Score”, the platform provides a percentage assessment that shows how well the CV matches the selected role, which makes it easier to adapt it to the job requirements.

Although the compatibility analysis is very helpful, it is worth remembering that an automatically generated CV is not a substitute for an individual approach and an insightful evaluation of the document by a human. Creating a CV requires attention to the nuances and skillful description of experience and qualifications, which is best provided by the candidate themselves. AI suggestions can be a valuable guide and starting point, but we do not recommend relying only on them if the goal is to create a CV that will increase your chances of getting hired.

At Career Angels, we can support you in the process of creating a fully personalized, tailor-made CV – both for humans and ATS systems. If you are interested, please contact us via this form or send an email to Contact@CareerAngels.eu.

Huntr (https://huntr.co/)

The next platform we recommend can make your job search process much easier. It offers a range of useful tools, including Job Tracker, which lets you monitor every step of your application.

This tool allows you to store all your documents, save details about offers, and track your activity, making it easy to manage the entire recruitment process – from submitting an application, through the interview, to receiving an offer. Additionally, thanks to the Google Chrome plugin, you can quickly add an offer that interests you with one click.

The platform also offers support in optimizing your CV for specific job offers, using AI that suggests additional skills and keywords to increase your chances of being noticed by the employer. You will also easily find out how well your CV matches the selected job ad.

However, as with the previous tool, the tips generated by AI should be treated only as a suggestion, which can be helpful but should not be the basis for the entire CV creation process. Artificial intelligence does not always propose optimal solutions, so it is crucial to maintain a critical approach. In such an important process, it is worth relying primarily on your own ideas or using the help of specialists.

In the later stages of the recruitment process, the platform helps to store contacts of decision-makers that may prove useful in the future and organize interviews in one place: dates, documents, and other necessary details.

Tools to avoid

Not every tool fills its promises – some of them can even lower your chances of getting your dream job. We are presenting the ones that, in our opinion, bring more harm than good, and we are explaining why they should be avoided.

Resume.io (https://resume.io/)

We definitely don’t recommend this platform, as it may negatively impact your job search. Resume.io is advertised as a tool for creating a CV that is compatible with the requirements of ATS (Applicant Tracking System), but many of the available templates do not meet the general guidelines of these systems. For example, templates that use colorful fonts and 2-column layouts can result in your document being only partially read by the ATS. This in turn can lead to your application being automatically rejected.

Using this tool can ruin your chances, especially if you want your CV to be compatible with ATS. Creating documents for these systems requires strictly following specific rules – there is no room for freedom and experimentation!

Platformy typu Secta Labs, PhotoAiD (https://secta.ai/ https://photoaid.com/)

Another type of tool that we definitely don’t recommend are various types of CV photo creators. They work by uploading your own photo – often a selfie – which is then automatically modified to look more “professional”. Unfortunately, the final result often looks artificial, and in many cases makes you look like a completely different person.

At first glance, it is immediately obvious that the photo has been corrected by artificial intelligence, which a potential employer will quickly notice. This can raise suspicions about the authenticity of the application, and in extreme cases even suggest that the photo belongs to someone who does not exist.

What’s more, most of these tools are paid, which additionally exposes you to unnecessary costs. Instead of investing in such “improvement”, a much better solution would be to have a professional photo shoot with a photographer. However, if you don’t have such an opportunity, a well-prepared, natural photo taken by yourself, in the right conditions, will be much more reliable and beneficial.

To end with, a few things to keep in mind:

  1. The tools we recommend work only with documents in English, so keep that in mind when uploading them.
  2. Using AI, always apply the rule of limited trust. Don’t rely uncritically on every recommendation – artificial intelligence, although very helpful, can still make errors. Always check suggestions and corrections carefully, to make sure that everything meets your expectations.
  3. Test different tools and don’t be afraid to experiment with applications and plugins. Each tool has its own unique functions and it may turn out that one of them meets your needs better than the other.
