We recently spotted an article published by Dariusz Uzycki: a brilliant post on how candidates get their (on and offline) CVs very wrong by trying to be appealing to a wide range of people on the job market.
How? Why? Huh? The horoscope effect that “entails that people tend to rate descriptions of their personalities that supposedly are tailored specifically for them as highly accurate, but which are, in fact, vague and general enough to apply to a wide range of individuals.”
We couldn’t have put it better ourselves: we receive on average 2-3 CVs per day. Almost every single one of them have general & vague profile summaries. We cannot stress it enough: a unique professional summary is where and how you can set yourself aside. Personalize it!
You can read the full article here.
How do you know if your profile summary is good enough? Imagine that somebody visits your Linkedin profile and says, “Oh, I like that summary. I will use it myself!”. If they can go ahead and simply copy-paste it to their own profiles with only 2-3 minor changes, then you know that profile is not unique enough.
